About The ESSENTIALSâ„¢
No matter what you call them — character skills, SEL skills, positive psychology strengths, employability skills, 21st century competencies, or even soft skills— in every family, school, extra-curricular and athletics setting, employment and STEM readiness program, or community and workplace environment these foundational skills are essential.
The ESSENTIALSâ„¢ modules draw upon nearly 25 years of applied research and development in various K-16 education settings, the workplace, and diverse sport performance environments.
Each ESSENTIALS module is designed to teach students the core competency being addressed. This resource can be adapted into several short 15-minute lessons or initiated as a single experience to introduce the skill/competency. Once students have learned the core tool or strategy in each module, the tools can be used repeatedly to help students further develop and refine their skills to master the competency over time. In addition, several extension activities and teaching ideas are included within each module, allowing for supplementary practice opportunities throughout a course, semester, or year.
